Frequently Asked Questions

The Pretty Princess Mary Jane is available in NZ sizes UK 1.5 to UK 7 (EU 33–40), designed for intermediate and secondary school girls aged approximately 8 to 16 years.
Genuine leather is natural, uncoated hide that is soft and breathable. Coated leather has a protective finish applied to the surface, giving it a polished shine and making it easier to wipe clean. Both are real leather — coated leather simply has an added high-gloss layer for a sleeker look, which is why it's popular for school shoes that need to look smart all year.
The functional closure is velcro, hidden under a classic buckle-look detail. You get the traditional Mary Jane aesthetic with the convenience of quick velcro fastening — no buckle to fiddle with in the morning rush, and the decorative buckle keeps the polished, uniform-appropriate look.
A Mary Jane has a single horizontal strap across the instep — the classic look of the Pretty Princess. A T-bar adds a vertical bar running from the toe area up to meet that strap, forming a T shape. T-bars suit younger primary school girls (4–7 years), while the Mary Jane silhouette is preferred for intermediate and secondary school students.
Yes. They feature a padded ankle collar and a cushioned insole for all-day support. Students can comfortably wear them from morning classes through to after-school activities. The chunky PVC sole also absorbs impact on hard surfaces like corridor tiles and concrete.
Yes. The all-black leather design with classic Mary Jane silhouette meets uniform policies at the vast majority of NZ intermediate and secondary schools. Always check your school's specific dress code, but these are widely accepted.
Use the size finder at the top of this page — enter your foot length in centimetres and we'll recommend the correct size. We suggest measuring both feet and using the longer measurement. Standard width fit.
A full school year of daily wear is normal for well-cared-for coated leather school shoes. Wipe down regularly and polish with black shoe cream to maintain the high-gloss finish. For growing teens, most will need a new size before the shoes wear out.
